Welcome to our first Esprit Freedivers underwater safari on 29th June 2024.
Blessed by perfect weather, the Freedivers set out from Seaview Toll Road in the morning, led by our local Marine Biologist and award winning underwater photographer, Theo Vickers and assisted by Project Seagrass rep, Becky Noakes. We learnt how to track and spot the signs of the underwater wildlife, finding abundant seagrass meadows sheltering cuttlefish eggs, common stingray feeding spots, multiple local crustaceans like crabs and scallops. However, the greatest surprise was spotted by Jason - a female, thornback ray, asleep in the shallows, providing lots of photo opportunities for the group! Two hours passed very quickly and we rounded off the safari with a sumptuous lunch at Mermaid Bar, washed down with free IW Distillery gin/rum/vodka tasting boards and an entertaining tour of the distillery. We will be organising more safaris in the future - at the request of the group.
Thanks to all for supporting us and the photos from Theo and Sebastien Saintignan!
